Waterspirit Staff Member Appointed to State DEP Council

Rachel Dawn Davis, the public policy and justice organizer for Waterspirit, has been appointed to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Environmental Justice Advisory Council. This council is a statewide body that helps integrate environmental justice into the NJDEP's activities. Rachel will bring her experience in eco-spiritual advocacy to this role, strengthening Waterspirit's connections throughout the state.

“This appointment is a blessing that affirms Waterspirit’s calling to community to care for what has been entrusted to us. It strengthens our ability to listen more deeply, serve more boldly, and act alongside those most disproportionately impacted by harm,” Davis said. “Through this expanded role, we carry forward the sacred work of love, protection and healing—for the waters, the land and all of our neighbors.”

Since joining Waterspirit in 2020, Davis has been certified as a Good Grief Network Facilitator and serves as chairperson of the premier Water Advocacy Committee for the Lead Free New Jersey initiative. She has been speaking about the climate crisis since 2005, emphasizing civic engagement, community planning and the power of preventative policies.
