On Monday, July 28, 2025, Holy Name announced a historic $75 million gift from the Douglas M. Noble Family Foundation. This is believed to be the largest philanthropic gift to a Catholic hospital in the U.S. and the second largest in New Jersey.
The transformational gift will expand access to specialized care, such as the new Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, mitigate the physician shortage through the launch of a Graduate Medical Education Program, and allow for the acquisition of leading-edge technology for new clinical initiatives, including the Douglas M. Noble, M.D. Neuroendovascular Institute.
The ceremony included several presentations to Joan Noble, Dr. Douglas Noble’s mother and head of the family foundation. Notably, a framed replica of the thank-you card sent in 1923 by Mother General Agatha Brown to Dr. George Pitkin was on display, acknowledging the first donation made by Dr. Pitkin to support Holy Name in the amount of $1,000.

Alongside the replica was a handwritten note from Michael Maron, President & CEO of Holy Name, to Mrs. Noble in appreciation for the extraordinary gift to the hospital.
Antionette Moore, CSJP; Regina O’Connell, CSJP; Terry Donohue, CSJP; and Norah Clarke, CSJP, represented the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace alongside leaders from Peace Ministries, including Assistant Executive Director Aileen Dibra, Trustee Kate Walsh and Executive Director Maureen Donohue, CSJP-A. Sister Antoinette and Maureen Donohue also serve as trustees of Holy Name.
Reflecting on Holy Name’s first hundred years of healing ministry, the Noble Family’s generosity ensures Holy Name’s mission of healing and compassionate care will thrive well into the next century and beyond.
